Introduction eng simple language .docx

This “accessible information scheme” named Tourism for Me – Accessible Tourism is a pilot platform designed to engage stakeholders in tourism in a broader sense, by adapting business practices in line with the principles of accessible tourism.

The primary goal of developing this platform is to assist people with disabilities in finding accessible tourist facilities and services, and to identify “A Good Host for People with Disabilities” in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.

Our plans for improving this “accessible information scheme” do not end with the completion of the project, as we will continuously enhance it by adding newly evaluated accessible stakeholders in tourism.

Therefore, we invite all tourism stakeholders to get in touch, so they can be included on this map, following the example of major European cities like Barcelona, Paris, and others.

The principles of accessible tourism were created based on examples from other stakeholders within the European Union, with the participation of partners and individuals with disabilities from this county.

You can download the principles here:

We have also developed a declaration/self-assessment questionnaire for tourism stakeholders who wish to highlight their services for people with disabilities and contribute to the development of accessible tourism.

This is a customised tool that aligns with elements from the Technical Regulation – Technical Regulation on Ensuring Accessibility of Buildings for People with Disabilities and Reduced Mobility, as well as other similar tools used by cities and networks for accessible tourism in the EU.

You can find more information about the content of the self-assessment questionnaire and how it was developed here:

This “accessible information scheme” named Tourism for Me – Accessible Tourism has several functions:

  1. To assist people with disabilities in finding an accessible tourist destination or service in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and beyond.
  2. To encourage tourism operators to adapt their business for new types of guests, tourists, or visitors.
  3. To promote tourism stakeholders who have changed their business during the project, thereby contributing to the development of accessible tourism in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and the Republic of Croatia.
  4. To inform and encourage people with disabilities to undertake accessible travel, leisure, or use of services, which is a right of people with disabilities.

This scheme is the result of the Tourism for Me project, implemented by DIP from October 2023 to September 2024.

The project is funded by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and other donors. During the project, we conducted training for various tourism stakeholders to work with people with disabilities as guests, as well as informing the public about the rights of people with disabilities to leisure and travel.

We also trained and informed people with disabilities about working in tourism, as well as mentors and future mentors in workplaces where people with disabilities work in tourism.

In line with best practices and the existing legal framework, we have developed a self-assessment tool for tourism stakeholders so they can be recognised for their efforts and contributions to the development of accessible tourism. This recognition is called “A Good Host for People with Disabilities.”

The recognition or label “Good Host for People with Disabilities” is awarded to stakeholders or service providers in tourism who meet the conditions marked in three colours or three levels. The criteria can be found here:

Meets the conditions: training completed, signed the declaration of adherence to the principles.
Meets more than 50% of the conditions.
Meets more than 80% of the conditions.
