On Saturday, July 22^nd, 2023, we were at the summer workshops for young people, organized by the Croatian Photo Association. The DIP team spent a summer Saturday in a creative and happy mood, gathering new experiences and skills that were passed on to us by the hardworking and enthusiastic members of the Croatian Photo Association.

What were we doing? We learned new interesting and creative techniques for creating photograms – photo images printed on textiles (on cloth bags) and paper using the cyanotype technique.

Cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic techniques by which we obtain photographs of a characteristic green-blue color, without the use of silver, unlike other previously discovered techniques. It was invented by Sir J. Herschel (https://hr.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Herschel). It is an inexpensive and non-toxic technique that produces beautiful prints in different tones, that have an artistic feel about them.

Cyanotype can be applied on paper, but also on fabric consisting of natural materials, such as 100 percent cotton or silk. In order to get the best possible photogram of the plant, you should choose paper that can withstand long-term processing in water.

We took our works on cloth bags and photographic paper to the DIP, and immediately set up a small exhibition. After the exhibition ends, the members will take their works home as a souvenir.

We are looking forward to the start of the work of our “Friends Daycare Center” in September, after the summer break, when we will share the acquired experience with our other members.   The Croatian Photo Association has traditionally organized a summer photography workshop for young people in Istria continuously since 1997, in the month of July. This year, 30 participants gathered from Omiš, Križevci, Rovinj, Krnica, Rijeka, Jasenovac, Piljenica, Pula, Bakar, Krasica, Volosko, Jadranovo and Poreč.
