Kvarner Colony of Authors’ Comics and Illustrations, vol. 3 – two weeks of comics in Rijeka and Primorsko-goranska County

Preparations for the intensive November of comics in 2023 are underway – two weeks of comics in the Primorsko-goranska County

Preparations are in full swing for the meeting and joint work of authors of comics and illustrations in Rijeka at the DIP. The third time. What is it about? We are preparing several events for you to promote comics and please fans of original comics and illustrations:

Join us and support the authors of comics:

  1. Exhibition of works created in the First and Second Colonies, with accompanying content, from Thursday, November 9th, 2023. at the Academy of Applied Arts, https://apuri.hr.

The exhibition will be open for at least two weeks and can be viewed during the working hours of the Academy. The exhibition opening and promotion are led by Damir Stojnić and Damir Steinfl, as well as Marta Berčić (on behalf of the DIP). Works from the First and Second Colonies will be exhibited at a group exhibition at the Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka.

The opening is on Thursday, November 9th, 2023, at 12 o’clock. The opening of the exhibition will be enriched by the promotion and presentation of authors and works:

  1. The first two-issue of the Primorsko-goranska County comic book almanac, The “Irrationalist”, a printed edition that comprises collected works created during the First and Second Kvarner Colony of the Authors’ Comics and Illustrations can be found

  2. A collection of works by Korina Hunjak, “’18-22′ Ship Diary of Korina Hunjak”, participant of the Colony, and member of the editorial board of comic book magazine, Prefiks.

  3. Announcement of the 24-hour drawing, which will this year be held for the third time at the DIP, from Saturday, November 11th to Sunday, November 12th, 2023.

More at: https://www.24satnocrtanjestripa.com .The organizer of the 24-hour of drawing is the Croatian Comic Book Authors Association, and the DIP is the collaborator on the part of Rijeka. The coordinators are Ana Marija Lončar and Korina Hunjak. https://www.24satnocrtanjestripa.com/strip/2022-rijeka/.  On Saturday, we will invite the media to follow the live 24-hour comic drawing.

  1. Announcement of the meeting and work of the authors at the third Kvarner colony of author comics and illustrations, from November 16th through 19th, 2023, at the DIP, Wenzlova 2, Rijeka.

Our “Irrationalist” and other magazines will also be available for purchase at the opening of the exhibition at the Academy, November 9th, 2023. at 12:00 p.m., in the DIP, but also during the 24-hour drawing at the Colony.

  1. Colony vol.3. – joint work of the authors at the DIP, from November 16 through 19th, 2023. Who will be the participants in the colony this year? Calls for applications are ongoing.

It is planned that 5 to 7 authors who will come to Rijeka, as well as local authors and students of the Rijeka Academy of Applied Arts, will participate in the work of the Colony. In total, 10 to 15 authors from all over Croatia will take part in the Colony. There is a possibility and it is desirable that during the holding of the Colony at the DIP, authors sell comic fanzines.

The colony has been co-financed for 4 years by the Primorsko-goranska County, in the Program of Public Needs in Culture, as well as by the DIP and other donors.

Funds from the sale of “The Irrationalist” are used for the printing of a new issue in 2024.
